O.A.U Strike, NOT AGAIN!

How funny that my first post this year will have to be about the strike my school embarked on. This is the second strike I will experience since I got to the school. You may want to ask the reason for the strike. Well it happened like this, our V.C increased the school fees which we students can never agree to. Meetings upon meetings have been done with him the students union but he was adamant.

Lectures had to be boycotted for three days, I will say those three days were a little bit fun, the roads on campus were barricaded, disrupting the movement of cars. On the third day of the lecture boycott, our 'admirable' V.C announced that all students should vacate the campus by 12noon. It was not funny that day because people had to trek a long distance from the hostel to the main gate, its a long walk indeed. But lucky me and my friend, we got a lift.

Am back home now since Wednesday 23rd and nothing gas been said about our resumption I just hope the strike will not take long, though I doubt it.

School Is Resuming Soon

This is going to be like the second month I am spending at home, and I can say the holiday is 60% fun and 40% boring. I really mean the word boring in its real term, lack of light is killing me, this people are really holding the power, (as there name Power Holding Company ‘implies’). Well school is resuming April 4, and the only problem I have with it is that April 4 is Easter Sunday, but what choice do we have than to resume.

I can’t wait to get back to school, electricity is stable, I will get to reunite with my friends again, it is a long break without them, do not get me wrong, it is not that I don’t enjoy staying with my family, they make up 40% in the 60% fun I had during this break.

Well fun is in school, but that does not mean sometimes I don’t think education as a stress, lectures, tests and exams can stress one out. Oh God and there are some dull lectures I mean it, lectures that will make you want to sleep, sometimes when I am in that kind of situation, I mean listening to dull and boring lectures, I can’t help my mind from wandering away like Helen Burns in Jane Eyre I think of home and its beauties.

I put a lot of things away when I am in school because I don’t have the time, like facebook I reduce my time on facebook drastically I must confess that site can cause havoc to ones education very time consuming when you get addicted. I will also miss blogging when I get to school, I can only have little time for blogging. Why am I missing everything now, I won’t be going to school until two weeks time :)

Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre is an autobiography I will always love; Charlotte Bronte’s style amuses me a lot. The novel carries you along, you get ‘dumped’ into the novel becoming the heroine: Jane Eyre

Quotes from Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre
Speak I must: I had been trodden on severely, and must turn: but how? What strength had I to dart retaliation at my antagonist? - Jane Eyre

I am not deceitful: if I were, I should say I love you, but I declare I do not love you: I dislike the worst of anybody in the world except John Reed; and this book about the liar, you may give your girl Georgina, for it is she who, tell lies, and not I.- Jane Eyre

I am glad you are no relation of mine: I will never call you aunt again as long as I live. I will never come to see you when I am grown up; and if any one asks me how I liked you, and how you treated me, I will say the very thought of you makes me sick, and you treated me with miserable cruelty.- Jane Eyre

I will tell anybody who asks me questions this exact tale. People think you a good woman, but you are bad; hard-hearted. You are deceitful!
Something of vengeance I had tasted for the first time; as romantic wine it seemed, on swallowing, warm and racy: its after-flavour, metallic and corroding, gave me a sensation as if I had been poisoned.- Jane Eyre

It is far better to endure patiently a smart which nobody feels but yourself, than to commit a hasty action whose evil consequences will extend to all connected to you; and, besides the Bible bids us to return good for evil. - Helen Burns.

It is not violence that best overcomes hate - nor vengeance that most certainly heals injury. – Helen Burns

Presentiments are strange things! And are sympathies; and so are signs: and the three combined make one misery to which humanity has not yet found the key. – Jane Eyre

A sneer, however, whether covert or open, had now no longer power over me it once possessed… - Jane Eyre

But unimpressionable natures are not so readily eradicated – Jane Eyre

I am not talking to you now through the medium of custom, conventionalities or even mortal flesh:- it is my spirit that addresses your spirit; just as if both had passed through the grave, and we stood before God’s feet, equal,- as we are!

For Haiti

Hearing the devastating news in Haiti, I decided to write this poem.

We have been here for ages,
Living peacefully without disaster
Love filling the neighbourhood
Smiles, laughter pasted on our faces
Though we are imperfect
But togetherness takes us along

Suddenly an enemy strikes
Taking away with him all our joys
Scattering families
He took away parents
Leaving children alone
Took away husbands
Leaving wives alone
Now our little joy is gone

I don't understand our world
This disaster is unbearable
Where are my parents?
Where are my brothers?
Oh Lord! I can't find my sister
My husband is nowhere to be found
My wife, taken away right in front of my eyes

I am helpless
We are helpless
But dry your tears beloved land
A tree cut down will sprout again
All hope is not lost
Our glory lost
Shall be restored.

How Time Flies

How time flies, time waits for no one its October 31, when did we start this November, It was as if we just started it yesterday but I must confess that time is not all that fast. I can remember when I was admitted into the hospital for just two days. Man the two days felt like five days then I thought of it that when you are alive and healthy, then time will fly for you, but when sickness or calamities invades then time will drag like hell, so you got to thank God for every time you have spent and please spend your time wisely.

Smile

A smile costs nothing but creates much. It enriches those who receive without improveshing those who give. It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None are so rich they can get along without it and none are so poor but both are richer for its benefits.

It creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in business and is the countersign of friends. It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad and nature's best antidote for, trouble.

Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen, for it is something that is earthly good to anybody until it is given away. Nobody needs a smile so much as those who have none left to give.

TRUST

I have always wonder what the true definition of trust could be. These are some of my findings.

What is Trust?
Trust is both and emotional and logical act. Emotionally, it is where you expose your vulnerabilities to people, but believing they will not take advantage of your openness. Logically, it is where you have assessed the probabilities of gain and loss, calculating expected utility based on hard performance data, and concluded that the person in question will behave in a predictable manner. In practice, trust is a bit of both. I trust you because I have experienced your trustworthiness and because I have faith in human nature.

We feel trust. Emotions associated with trust include companionship, friendship, love, agreement, relaxation, comfort.

There are a number of different ways we can define trust. Here are the dimensions of trust and consequent definitions.

Predictability
It is a normal part of the human condition to be constantly forecasting ahead. We build internal models of the world based both on our experiences and what others tell us, and then use these to guess what will happen next. This allows us to spot and prepare for threats and also make plans to achieve our longer-term goals.

The greatest unpredictability is at 50%; a reliable enemy can be preferable to an unpredictable friend, as at least we know where we are with them.

Definition 1: Trust means being able to predict what other people will do and what situations will occur. If we can surround ourselves with people we trust, then we can create a safe present and an even better future.

Value exchange
Most of what we do with other people is based around exchange, which is the basis for all businesses as well as simple relationships. At its simplest, it is exchange of goods. I will swap you two sheep for one cow. It is easy to calculate the value in such material bargaining. Things get more complex when less tangible forces come into play. A parent exchanges attention for love. A company exchanges not only pay but good working conditions for the intellectual and manual efforts of its workforce.

Value exchange works because we each value things differently. If I have a whole flock of sheep but no milk, then I can do business with a person who has a herd of cows but no clothes. This principle of reciprocity is what binds societies together.

Trust in value exchange occurs when we do not know fully whether what we are receiving is what we expect. When we buy a car, don’t want to be sold a ringer which the seller knows is faulty. When I get advice in business, I want it to be based on facts, not wild opinions.

Definition 2: Trust means making an exchange with someone when you do not have full knowledge about them, their intent and the things they are offering to you.

Delayed reciprocity
Exchange is not just about an immediate swapping of cows and sheep or hugs and kisses. What makes companies and societies really work is that something is given now, but the return is paid back some time in the future. The advantage of this is that we can create a more flexible environment, where you can get what you need when you need it, rather than having to save up for it.

Trust now becomes particularly important, because otherwise we are giving something for nothing. The delay we have placed in the reciprocal arrangement adds a high level of uncertainty which we need to mitigate through trust.

What is often called the ‘golden rule’ is a simple formula for creating trust. ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ It sets up the dynamic for my giving you something now with the hope of getting back some unspecified thing in the indeterminate future.

Definition 3: Trust means giving something now with an expectation that it will be repaid, possibly in some unspecified way at some unspecified time in the future.

Exposed vulnerabilities
When we trust other people, we may not only be giving them something in hope of getting something else back in the future, we may also be exposing ourselves in a way that they can take advantage of our vulnerabilities. If I buy a car from you and I do not know a good price, you can lie to me so you get a better bargain. If I tell you in confidence about the problems I am having with work, you could use this to further your own career at my expense.

Although the threat of retribution or projected feelings of guilt can counteract your temptation to abuse my exposed vulnerabilities, if you succumb I still get hurt and may still end up with the shorter stick. For our transaction to complete successfully, I must be able to trust that such agonies will not come to pass.

Definition 4: Trust means enabling other people to take advantage of your vulnerabilities—but expecting that they will not do this.

Going Back To school

After staying At home for about FOUR whole months because of the ASUU FG palaver I will be going back to school Next week. Man the four week strike was like hell. Looking back to the beginning of the strike it was as if I just spent a month at home.

But during this period I know I have missed a lot, yeah all the students that were affected had missed a lot( How will you stay at home for 4 month and not miss something :(?)

That is why some people say Private universities are better than the Federal and State owns. But I will say they are wrong. They treat undergraduate as if they are secondary students in private university. Well no shit am going back to school next week that's just it. ALUTA CONTINUA

ODE TO MY LOVER

The beauty of your face
Is like a sun shining in the evening,
The coolness of your skin
Is like the breeze of the sea in the evening,
Your presence as present life to my life.

You have saved my present from collapsing
You have brought hope to my future
You have made me feel
Like a king who rules the globe.

My Lover, my hope
My Lover, my future
My sailing through life cannot be easy without thee
You are my heart
You are my life.

How can I do without a heart?
How can I do without you?
You are my life
You are my future
The torch of my dream.
