For Haiti

Hearing the devastating news in Haiti, I decided to write this poem.

We have been here for ages,
Living peacefully without disaster
Love filling the neighbourhood
Smiles, laughter pasted on our faces
Though we are imperfect
But togetherness takes us along

Suddenly an enemy strikes
Taking away with him all our joys
Scattering families
He took away parents
Leaving children alone
Took away husbands
Leaving wives alone
Now our little joy is gone

I don't understand our world
This disaster is unbearable
Where are my parents?
Where are my brothers?
Oh Lord! I can't find my sister
My husband is nowhere to be found
My wife, taken away right in front of my eyes

I am helpless
We are helpless
But dry your tears beloved land
A tree cut down will sprout again
All hope is not lost
Our glory lost
Shall be restored.
